Opus and Amazon Web Services are looking for independent freelance proofreaders/copyeditors with solid PowerPoint skills to join our team to review slide presentations and work with speakers at a large, high-profile tech conference this fall. Editors based in Las Vegas are preferred, but not required. PowerPoint experience is a must. The limited-time project requires that you train remotely before the event and that you work onsite in Las Vegas during the event. Travel to the event, and hotel and meals during the event, are covered. To be considered for the role, you must fully commit to completing your training before the conference and to working onsite in Las Vegas during the conference. Note the proximity of these dates to the Thanksgiving holiday on November 28. Remote training includes a remote training session and self-study (8 hours, November 18–November 22). Onsite training in Las Vegas is on Saturday, November 30. Work begins on Sunday, December 1 and concludes either Thursday, December 5 or Friday, December 6. This is a fast-paced project. You are expected to use the client’s resources, which includes service name and legal compliance requirements. Scheduled onsite hours vary from day to day, requiring some flexibility. Primary responsibilities include: Providing onsite editing and proofreading services for up to five days, plus attending half a day of training beforehand. Proofreading PowerPoint presentations for accurate branding, grammar, spelling, and service name usage. Ensuring that copy adheres to the provided guidelines and is free of errors and typos. Remotely completing project training and attend scheduled team calls. Ensuring that legal guidelines are met in content and there are no copyright infringement or trademark violations. Required skills and experience include: At least three years of professional copyediting and proofreading experience (website, publishing house, or executive communications preferred) in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Chicago Manual of Style. Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of work with minimal oversight and with tight deadlines. Experience with performing legal compliance review on content. Strong knowledge of grammar. Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint. This is a 1099 independent contractor role. Pay range is $35-$42/hour. You will train on your own computer that can connect to the internet and has Microsoft Office 2016. Amazon Web Services, a cloud computing company, is looking for freelance editors for an eight-week project doing proofreading and light copyediting on PowerPoint presentations. Candidates must have experience editing in PowerPoint and their own PC laptop. The project kicks off in early October and goes through the first week of December. It involves one week of training remotely part-time, six weeks of working remotely with a team of copyeditors/proofreaders full-time, and one week of working onsite at a conference in Las Vegas full-time. Travel expenses and meals during the event are covered.
