You’ll lead the strategy and implementation of technology documentation across GDS. The content will help the government continually improve its technical capability and help civil servants across government use products maintained by GDS.
You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and technologists across government, including the Head of Technical Writing. You’ll interview people, research user needs, and oversee the maintenance of GDS’ documentation tools.
You’ll be comfortable working across multiple agile teams, line managing members of the technical writing team, and providing training and support.
The GDS technical writing team has published a blog post about what it’s like working as a technical writer at GDS.
As a lead technical writer, you’ll set standards in technical documentation and define standard procedures for using tools, storing and publishing information.
GDS manages its technical documentation using a ‘docs as code’ approach. You’ll oversee all maintenance of GDS’ documentation tools and the docs as code process and make recommendations on how to improve existing content.
Respect, collaboration and trust are at the core of our culture. We trust each other to do our best work. We believe in our mission and work for the whole population. We can only do that by being an inclusive and diverse organisation.
