Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience managing and leading technical writing teams.
  • Experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing.
  • Experience with writing technical customer-facing materials.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with reading code in C++, Java, or Python.
  • Demonstrated HTML and CSS or Markdown skills.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, support multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fluid environment.

About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

As a Technical Writing Manager, you will help technical writers take complex information and communicate it clearly, concisely, and accurately. With a unique cross-functional perspective, our team of technical writers is the key link between our engineers; our developer advocates; and the external users and developers who comprise the Google ecosystem.

  • Manage a team of technical writers, setting the goals, priorities, and vision.
  • Identify documentation needs proactively.
  • Identify and resolve issues relating to documentation project schedules, resource availability, documentation structure, documentation design, and deliverables.
  • Drive documentation improvements and successful customer learning experiences.
  • Coach writers in their work and assist them in developing their careers.
