Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing.
  • Experience with writing technical customer-facing materials.
  • Experience with HTML or markdown; experience in a Unix environment.
  • Experience documenting source code written in C++, Python and/or JavaScript.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with networking or cloud IAAS products.
  • Experience working in teams committing code and working with version control.
  • Experience with computer networking technologies, such as DNS, routers, the BGP routing protocol, firewalls and firewall rules including iptables, Virtual Private Networks and cloud-based services, and load balancers and proxies.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, support multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fluid environment.

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. As a Technical Writer for the Networking team, you will be responsible for working with Engineering and Product Management to document new features. You'll also update the documents to address customer feedback and internal bug reports. You'll have access to a large team of writers in the Cloud Docs organization, with opportunities to collaborate around tools, process, and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and organize documentation sets for new application program interfaces (APIs) and developer products.
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others, and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills.
  • Write technical documentation for external developers and network and security engineers, including concept documents, how-to guides, and API reference documents.
  • Design and organize documentation sets for new features.
  • Rewrite and reorganize existing documents to improve customer experience.
