Job Description

Due to the current health crisis related to COVID-19 and the escalating visa/travel restrictions in place, we're currently unable to extend offers to anyone who cannot work from India due to lockdown visa/travel restrictions, or other restrictive measures until further notice. Consequently, we will be prioritizing candidates who can start in this location by set date as expected. We're keeping the situation under review and would adjust our position should the restrictive measures be removed later on.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience managing or leading technical writers.
  • Experience with source code written in Java, C++, Python, and/or JavaScript.
  • Experience producing technical documentation for a developer audience.
  • Experience with HTML and CSS or Markdown.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of technical writing experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

As a Technical Writing Manager, you will help technical writers take intricate information and communicate it clearly, concisely, and accurately. With a unique cross-functional perspective, our team of technical writers is the key link between our engineers, our developer advocates, and the external users and developers in the Google ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of technical writers, setting the goals, priorities, and vision.
  • Identify documentation needs proactively.
  • Identify and resolve issues relating to documentation project schedules, resource availability, documentation structure, documentation design and deliverables.
  • Drive documentation improvements and successful customer learning experiences.
  • Coach writers in their work and assist them in developing their careers.
