Full-time Technical Writing

Job Description

At ALIAS, we’re re-inventing privacy laws and regulation with software, and we’d like your help in telling that story. We believe that, in the digital world, “law is code, and code is law”, and that’s why we’ve built tools to enable developers to make privacy laws regulations a reality — especially since they’re the ones responsible for their implementation in applications and companies.

More concretely, we’re making APIs and devtools to make privacy regulations programmable by developers, as easy as manipulating code and APIs. By applying regulations as code, companies can scale compliance internally using our developer-friendly tools. We also know that an API is as good as its documentation, this is why we’re looking for an experienced API docs writer to help us make regulation simple to implement. Our aim is to build with you a state of the art API documentation that is well-documented, interactive, code-sampled, and developer-friendly, with a range of content from Getting started guides, to use-case-driven Tutorials, to reference pages.

About the Role

ALIAS is looking for a highly motivated Technical Writer for APIs to own all technical content within the ALIAS developers and Data Protection Officer communities. We welcome diversity, and if you feel you’re the right person for the job, you’re probably right, so reach out to us.

What You’ll Be Doing

You'll be the owner of the API documentation and the Developer portal content experience. The documentation created by you as an API Docs writer will be consumed by many different external audiences (“personas”), but especially Developers and Data Protection Officers (DPO), so you’ll have to manage both technical and non-technical audiences.

Content will be authored and/or edited for multiple mediums, mainly our Developer portal, but also a developer blog, email, and newsletters. The job involves :

  • Working with engineers to document code samples, API references, getting started guides, tutorials, and technical implementation guides
  • Helping organize and maintain copy on the API Developer portal
  • Working on processes/tools to integrate documentation within the API Developer portal
  • Keeping track on new API docs technologies and best practices, and deciding which one to pick internally
  • Working asynchronously, with constant feedback from engineers and the product manager, and taking in account customer feedback (you will be invited to customer/developers support meetings when it makes sense)
  • Occasionally proofreading the English content written by engineers

We’re excited if you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in writing technical documentation
  • 3+ years experience implementing and maintaining technical tutorials and API reference documentation (working with API definitions --> Open API documents/Swagger or RAML or API Blueprint)
  • Experience in understanding and/or coding with object-oriented programming and scripting languages (a background as developer is a real plus but not mandatory)
  • Fluent english writing skills
  • Ability to quickly earn trust among engineers and product managers

Depending on where you are based, we will discuss advantages offered. We are a EU based company and are opening a subsidiary in the US.
If you care about privacy ans user's right as we care, and you think you are the best person to help developers to do it, let's talk via email or via twitter @medjawii
