The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

This position is unique in our organization as we are looking for someone with both writing and technical skills to be an advanced member of our team. You would be part of the Technical Communications team, which consists of 15 writers and a knowledge manager. You would deliver product documentation and help innovate the way we deliver our documentation. This role will help shape the future of the team. You will spend 30-50% of your time creating and maintaining product documentation, and the rest will be designing and implementing documentation delivery methods, such as help frameworks, information portals, and authoring tool processes.

  • Advancing how we deliver information to our clients.
  • Ensuring our clients have the information they need to meet their compliance and regulation needs while enhancing their workflow operations.
  • Collaborating with many teams in the organization to ensure documentation and communication is accurate and complete.
  • Connecting teams across the organization as you work with many aspects of product delivery.
  • Modernizing aspects of the Technical Communications team processes and tools.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university OR High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Communication in lieu of the bachelor’s degree education requirement
  • Four (4) years of technical writing experience
  • Advanced knowledge of web development, including HTML, CSS, and familiarity with a JavaScript framework like React, Angular, or Vue

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Intermediate knowledge of XML and XSLT
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent communication and research skills.
  • Familiarity with a Component Content Management System like Paligo or Author-it
  • Information design skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Angular and/or Vue, specifically.
  • Previous experience building or maintaining documentation delivery systems.

Location: Remote

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic travel annually
