Full-time Technical Writing Developer Relations Remote-Friendly

Job Description

Headquartered in Helsinki with offices in Berlin and Sydney Aiven provides managed open-source data technologies, such as PostgreSQL, Kafka and M3, on all major clouds. We have raised $150M in VC funding to date and are backed by world-class investors including Atomico, IVP and Earlybird Venture Capital, among others. We plan to invest this funding back into open source.

Our roots are in open source. The services we provide are based on best-in-class open source data technologies. We are establishing the Open Source Office that will coordinate and increase our contributions to the open source community.

Through Aiven, developers can do what they do best: create applications. Meanwhile, we do what we do best; manage cloud data infrastructure. We enable our customers to drive business results from open source resulting in true transformations far beyond their own backyards.

We have offices in Helsinki and Berlin, however we are hiring for this position remotely in several countries all over Europe and the East Coast of the USA as well.

About the role

In Developer Relations, we create a great deal of written content as blog posts, tutorials, documentation, and social media content. As a technical writer, you will work with us on planning and perfecting our content so that we provide the best value that we can. You will enable the Developer Advocates and other not-specialist-writer colleagues to contribute written output by reviewing and editing their work.

You will be curious about the technologies we use at Aiven, and eager to enable our customers to succeed. You will be creating content as well as making sure that it is delivered correctly and also promoted across appropriate channels. You'll be ready to jump in and help your colleagues to structure and polish their written content. We are migrating existing content from a knowledgebase to a more developer-focussed portal site, and this will be a major project for you to contribute to.

  • You have demonstrable experience of writing technical documentation or other content, specifically for an audience of software developers.
  • You have a GitHub account and are experienced with git and markup formats such as Markdown and/or ReStructuredText.
  • You're well-organised, with excellent ability for paying attention to the small details that really matter.
  • You have excellent written English skills.
  • You demonstrate empathy and enjoy removing barriers to others' success.

  • An agile working environment with short decision paths
  • Compensation for your open source contributions in your free time
  • Flexible working hours, including remote working when needed
  • Choose the devices and tools that make you work the best
  • Participation in employee stock option plan

Please note that benefits and perks may slightly differ depending on location.
