Full-time Technical Writing

Job Description

The Qualtrics XM Platform™ is a system of action that helps businesses to attract customers who stay longer and buy more, to engage and empower employees to do the best work of their lives, to develop breakthrough products people love, and to build a brand people can’t imagine living without.

Joining Qualtrics means becoming part of a team bold enough to chase breakthrough experiences - like building a technology that will be a force for good. A team committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion because of a conviction that every voice holds value, with a vision for representation that matches the world around us and inclusion that far exceeds it. You could belong to a team whose values center on transparency, being all in, having customer obsession, acting as one team, and operating with scrappiness. All so you can do the best work of your career.

We believe every interaction is an opportunity. Are we yours?

About the Role

We are a rapidly growing team focused on enabling all users to implement industry-relevant and use-case based XM solutions, applying industry best practices, and leveraging new/evolving product capabilities to be successful with our solutions.  The Tech Writers are responsible for developing and maintaining a world-class digital-first online help experience. This online help guides users through their daily tasks and teaches them about the concepts available across the entire product suite to maximize their use of the platform.

Our technical writers plan, create, and maintain technical learning content as an integral part of the product launch process and ongoing user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their skill in explaining complex topics in a way that is useful to their audience. This is enabled by their ability to deeply understand complex technical functionality and to collaborate across Product Engineering, Product Management, and UX.

A Day in the Life

  • Create simple and human product documentation for users, developers, administrators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Research, write, and ensure the accuracy of content that covers current and future releases of our product.
  • Analyze operational data to identify underperforming product documentation and make revisions that improve it.
  • Accurately prioritize documentation, from the layout of content on a page to finding its proper place in the entire documentation taxonomy, with search optimization in mind.
  • Continuously improve documentation by responding to and incorporating feedback from customers and internal users.
  • Interact frequently with Product Engineers, Product Managers, and UX to gain deep technical expertise in product functionality and capability.
  • Act as a subject matter authority for the product by giving constructive feedback to the work of your peers and reviewing your own work with others.
  • Utilize your experience working with Markdown, HTML, CSS, and XML to publish content.

You delight in creating simple, compelling content to help customers get the answers they're looking for, at the right time and in the right way. You know how words make a difference from the earliest, strategic design explorations through final positioning and support messaging. You like to evangelize the power of simple, straightforward language, and balance significant long term product goals with short term tactical deliverables.

  • Bachelor's degree in technical communication, writing / composition, or related field such as English, Instructional Design, or Journalism. STEM majors with demonstrable writing proficiency are often successful in this role.
  • Ability to write and communicate in fluent written and spoken English
  • Ability to learn highly technical products quickly, using pre-release software, internal documentation, and technical discussions with Product Engineers and Product Managers
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complicated concepts into content that is accessible to audiences with mixed levels of expertise.
  • Experience in writing for web, software, hardware, or cloud technologies is preferred.
